Praja Foundation reveals report on State of Public School Education in Delhi !

New Delhi : Today, Praja Foundation released its report on the ‘State of Public (School) Education in Delhi’ at an event in New Delhi.



There has been a decrease of 1,44,913 students enrolling in MCD schools from 2013-14 to 2017-18, a 17% fall. In State Government schools there is a fall in enrolment of 1,32,138 students, an 8% drop from 2013-14 to 2017-18.

“If we look at the performance of Delhi Public schools in the last five years, it shows a disturbing trend. Class 1 enrolments in MCD schools have fallen by 43%, from 1,69,215 in 2010-11 to 95,817 in 2017-18, if the current trend continues, according to a time series analysis enrolments are further expected to drop to 37,938, a fall of 78% by 2020-21”, said Milind Mhaske, Director at Praja Foundation.

In state Government schools, while 97% students in Class 7 from 2014-15 batch moved to class 8 in 2015-16. Whereas, out of 3,11,824 students from Class 9 in 2016-17, only 1,38,829 moved to Class 10 in 2017-18; 55% students did not move to 10th class.

“Where did the 1,72,995 students who did not transition to 10th class in 2017-18 in state schools go?”, questioned Nitai Mehta, Founder and Managing Trustee of Praja Foundation.

Under the state’s correspondence education scheme Patrachar students who have failed in 8th or 9th class can apply for giving the 10th exam through correspondence.
