Isuzu to Focus on North India, Opens first outlet in New Delhi

With an aim to establish its presence as a key automobile player in India, Isuzu Motors, today announced its entry into North India by opening its exclusive outlet in heart of the country, New Delhi. On the occasion, the company launched its India-made range of “D-Max”, which is one of the largest selling pickup trucks world over. The D-Max range comprises of three models – two cabin options and two deck options. D-Max Single cab will be available in flat deck and the D-MAX Space Cab will be available in both flat deck and arched deck variants. The DMAX Single Cab is priced at an introductory launch price of Rs. 5,89,000 (ex-showroom NCR) and the DMAX Space Cab is priced at Rs. 6,09,000 (ex-showroom NCR) for the flat deck variant and Rs.6,99,000 (ex-showroom NCR) for the arched deck variant respectively.

The company also announced to open outlets in Gurgaon, Noida, Jaipur, Ludhiana this year and Chandigarh, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Lucknow, Kanpur and Udaipur by next year to cater to entire Northern region.

Commenting on the occasion, Mr. Takashi Kikuchi, Managing Director, Isuzu Motors India, said, “We are extremely happy to open our first outlet in North India. North is an important region for us, contributing to approximately 30% of the total pickup sales in the country. With this launch and our global quality vehicles, we are optimistic about establishing a strong foothold in the Indian pickup truck segment.”

He further added “We are observing a gradual shift in Indian customer’s preference from Small Commercial Vehicles to Pick-ups, which is one of largest and fastest growing segments in Commercial Vehicles (CV), accounting to 35% of the total CV market. By 2023, the 1 Tn pickup segment in India is expected to grow to 8 lakh units and become the world’s largest pickup market.”

The mighty D-Max is propelled by a 2499cc, 4-cylinder intercooled turbocharged diesel engine, mated with a 5-speed manual transmission. This powerful engine pumps out 134 hp power @ 3600 rpm and 294 Nm torque @ 1800-3200 rpm range, which enables D-Max to carry a payload of 1.2 ton effortlessly.

Isuzu’s D-Max has a heavy-duty chassis, a large cargo bed to “accommodate the bulkiest of loads” and its body structure is made from high-tensile-strength steel. It sports a bold and aggressive look on the outside and sophisticated, passenger-car like interiors, making it a pride for the owner.

Apart from its sleek and stylish exterior, the interiors of D-Max are capacious and stylishly-finished, providing driver and passengers with an SUV-like feel. The seats in the all-new Isuzu D-MAX are designed with long-distance comfort offering excellent support.

A completely new concept in India, the new D-MAX Space Cab’s unique feature is its extended cabin space of 1.5 feet behind the drivers’ seat, which can store valuable/ fragile goods. The D-MAX Space Cab offers advance safety measures along with other significant features like Power steering, Power windows, Centralized door lock, AC with heater etc., making it ideal for commercial use in industries like Agriculture, Retail, Dairy, Engineering, Manufacturing and Small business owners. The Space Cab would be available in three color options including Alpine White, Sterling Metallic Silver and Nautilus Blue.

Isuzu Motors India aims to open 60 outlets across India by end of 2015-16. This new facility is likely to commence commercial operations by early 2016, with the initial production capacity at 50,000 units/ year. Isuzu will scale up the production capacity to 120,000 units/ year, with the accumulated investment of Rs. 3,000 Crore, and is expected to generate 2000~3000 jobs. Isuzu Motors India plans to achieve 100% percent localization within three years of commencing production in 2016. It is an exemplary showcase of Isuzu’s long term commitment to the Indian market.
