A man with different strokes- A mariner, lawyer, statistician, management graduate, and now an Author – Capt. Anoop TANEJA
The book titled, Neil- A random man, is a work of fiction about a man without any details of a city or country where he lives or any other such details which one can normally use to picture his life. The name of different characters are country/region neutral and these people could exist in any country and any culture. This book is like an abstract painting with the reader to draw his own conclusions.
The person called Neil has two sides to him one which people see and believe he is, the other which no one sees but drives him which Neil has himself named as Sam. The book has reference to Neil and Sam based on the action at that particular time and instance. This first part is about Neil and his struggles in the corporate world, and then later how greed and his other half (Sam) drives him to do things that Neil would not normally do.
That’s what makes this book all the more interesting and relatable. As the author, Anoop says, “I believe we all know a Neil or Ruby in our lives…”
And as you read the book, you would realize the same.
It is an exciting and unconventional story. This novel is sure to keep you hooked; another reason to buy this book could be the charitable intent that it serves.
“When I lost my mother to a long and suffering ailment, I realized I need to do something in her memory. All the profits from this book are being taken in a dedicated account and donated to Vimhans hospital, New Delhi, and other such centers depending upon how much we can collect to ensure patients of schizophrenia are helped,” says Anoop.
This project is very close to his heart, it is a dedication to his mother who was battling Schizophrenia and Parkinson’s disease for over two decades, however, in the past she was very active and is the driving force behind his love for books and reading. He is an avid reader and reads almost anything including comics to books on biographies/history or any other thought-provoking book.
It took him many years to pen his thoughts first with a pen and paper but he was not making much headway beyond the first few pages. Later he turned to a computer as iterations were more manageable in digital format. He changed his job in 2017 and left Angola after a long stint and come back to Paris. He believes the change in place plus the fast deteriorating health of his mother made him complete the book. The book was completed in 2018 however his mother lost her fight and passed on to the other side. He lost the will to even consider publishing it. After another year, he then thought why not do it in her memory and use any collection for charity. Now when his first book is out for sale, he wishes his mother was there to see it.
The author of this interesting tale, Anoop, is a global citizen, having traveled to over 100 countries. He has tried to understand the history and culture of these different places. Every wave he encountered at sea as a sailor, and with every obstacle, he faced he has learned not just to look at people but also how people look at different circumstances. Anoop currently lives in Paris/London, followed by an eight-year stint in Angola, West Africa. In Angola, he saw the life, misery, struggles, and needs of people first-hand, which left a lasting impression on him.
