Greater Noida, February 7: Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH) is hosting a two-day “International Rainbow Conference” on diversity, inclusion, gender equality in education & work-life on 8th and 9th February.
Dr Himanshi Tiwari, Faculty, OB-HR area & the head of Rainbow centre BIMTECH, speaking to Ten News about the International Rainbow Conference said, ”This conference is a dissemination event under BIMTECH’s Project Rainbow, co-funded by the Erasmus Plus program of the European Union.”
“There are a total of six partners in the project, the partners of the project along with BIMTECH itself include two Indian universities & three overseas educational institutions, these are: FH JOANNEUM (Austria), University of Jyvaskyla School of Business and Economics (Finland), Nirma University (Ahmedabad, India), Sir Padampat Singhania University (Udaipur, India), International Consulting and Mobility Agency SL (INCOMA) (Spain).”
“Six of us are taking forward the cause of diversity, inclusion & gender equity. Three Indian partners have opened Rainbow centres for career counselling & guidance here in our campuses,” stated Himanshi Tiwari, adding that these centres are targeted to provide career counselling & guidance to three target areas – our own students, our female alumnae & any women in general who wants counselling & guidance support in her career.
Talking about the keynote speaker for the conference, Tiwari informed, Dr Alber J. Mills & Dr Jean Helms Mills professors of emeritus at Saint Mary’s University from Canada will be joining as keynote speakers.
When asked about the selection procedure & how many papers are going to be presented in the conference, she elucidated, “This is a truly international conference; 12 countries are participating & there are 43 papers to be presented in a technical session, there will be 8 technical sessions in two days. We have both case studies & research papers in this conference
When asked whether COVID in any way has hampered gender equality, she said, “Yes, Covid has played both good-bed roles for equality, gender equity, diversity and inclusion.”
“There is a statistical background to prove that women in India are quitting the workforce at an alarming rate. Women quitting work, staying back at home has always been a cause of concern in India & due to Covid despite having work from home facilities, the contribution of women in the workforce has gone down,” Tiwari responded in support to her statement.
“We all are going to come up with a picture where we know that diversity & inclusion is going to be the future; we can not be exclusive towards any marginalised section of the society.”
