Days after Inauguration by PM Modi, Bengaluru-Mysuru Highway Hit by Chaos amid Heavy Rains

New Delhi (India), March 18, 2023: The Bengaluru-Mysuru highway in Karnataka, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi just six days ago, has been submerged due to heavy rains in the Ramanagara region.

The underbridge on the highway in the Ramanagara district has been waterlogged, leading to a series of accidents and traffic jams. This same underbridge flooded last year when Karnataka experienced unprecedented rains.

Some commuters expressed their frustration and lashed out against Chief Minister BS Bommai and the PM for the damage caused to their vehicles. They questioned whether the highway was ready for inauguration and demanded accountability for the accidents. Despite the high toll fee, they lamented the lack of preparation and safety measures in place.

The 118-km-long Bengaluru-Mysuru expressway, built at a cost of Rs. 8,480 crore, was intended to reduce travel time from three hours to 75 minutes and serve as a catalyst for socio-economic development in the region.

While the recent rainfall has disrupted travel plans and caused damage, the long-term benefits of the highway cannot be denied. Nevertheless, authorities must ensure that safety measures and infrastructure are in place to prevent such incidents in the future.
