New Delhi (India), 21st April 2023: You should check your Android device for a number of questionable apps that Google has recently removed from the Play Store. More than 30 contaminated apps that are allegedly infected with harmful software have been targeted by the IT giant.

The cybersecurity experts at McAfee discovered weaknesses in this software that provide cybercriminals invasive access to your personal life by allowing them to monitor your Wi-Fi history, location data, and app activity.

According to reports, Google has either pulled the problematic apps from the Play Store or asked developers to upgrade them. But millions of devices might still have the apps installed. The full list of the apps can be accessed at the McAfee website.

Although the attack appears to be mostly impacting South Korea, this does not guarantee your safety. Hackers may also be utilising your device to click on malicious advertisements in the background.

SangRyol Ryu from McAfee said, “The research team has found more than 60 applications containing this third-party malicious library, with more than 100 million downloads. We reported the discovered apps to Google, which took prompt action.”

He further added, “Google has reportedly notified the developers that their apps are in violation of Google Play policies and fixes are needed to reach compliance. Some apps were removed from Google Play while others were updated by the official developers.”
