New Delhi, 14th June 2023: Authorities at the Indian Meteorological Department confirmed that Delhi is set to experience rainfall in the next few days under the influence of cyclone ‘Biparjoy.’
The rains are likely to bring much-needed relief from the heat as the temperature hovered around 45°C in parts of the city, while “real feel” soared to around 50°C Tuesday and strong surface winds prevailed on Wednesday.
While light rain or drizzle can be expected in the national capital beginning Thursday, rain showers with thunderstorms are expected to pound the city on Sunday, according to the IMD. Other than Delhi, Rainfall is expected in portions of Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, and west Uttar Pradesh on Thursday and Friday, according to the private agency Skymet Weather.
With a wind speed of 124-135 kmph, it is projected to traverse between Mandvi in Gujarat and Karachi in Pakistan near the Jakhau Port in Gujarat on June 15. The cyclone, which has deteriorated into a very severe cyclonic storm,’ could become the one with the longest duration in the Arabian Sea, according to the weather service.
‘Biparjoy,’ still moving north-northwestwards, is the only cyclone to impact the western coast in nearly 60 years.
As a result, the IMD issued a Red alert for the Saurashtra and Kutch beaches in Gujarat on Wednesday, warning of the risk of heavy damage from the cyclonic storm.
