New Delhi, August 14, 2023: Internet services have been reinstated in Haryana’s Nuh district, where communal clashes erupted two weeks ago, resulting in six casualties and numerous injuries.

The clashes were triggered by tensions surrounding a religious procession organized by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) on July 31. In response to the “tense and critical” situation, mobile internet, SMS, and broadband services were initially suspended.

The initial conflict emerged when an attempt was made to halt the VHP-organized procession, which escalated into violence leading to deaths, including that of two Home Guards and a Mosque cleric. The unrest spread to Gurugram, Palwal, Faridabad, and other Haryana districts, causing damage to vehicles, food establishments, and shops.

Rumors of cow vigilante Monu Manesar’s potential attendance at the procession fueled the tensions. While he had initially announced his intention on social media, Manesar later refrained from attending at the advice of the VHP to avoid further unrest.

A special investigation team (SIT) will delve into Manesar’s role in the clashes, and over 390 arrests have been made in connection with the violence.

Recently, a Hindu outfit organized a mahapanchayat in Palwal, during which members called for the abolition of Nuh district and emphasized the establishment of cow slaughter-free zones. The committee also decided to resume the Jalahishek Yatra on August 28 and advocated for stricter regulations on foreign visitors.

In a significant development, schools, colleges, and other educational institutions in Nuh have reopened, alongside the full restoration of Haryana State Transport bus services.

The restoration of internet services marks a step towards normalcy as authorities work to address the aftermath of the clashes and maintain stability in the region.
