New Delhi (11th Oct 2024): The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, graced the 8th Foundation Day celebration of the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) in New Delhi on 8th October. The event, held under the Ministry of Ayush, highlighted the significant strides made in promoting Ayurvedic healthcare in India over the past seven years.

Attending the ceremony were notable dignitaries including Vinay Kumar Saxena, the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi; Prataprao Jadhav, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ayush; Secretary of Ayush, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha; AIIA Director Prof. (Dr) Tanuja Nesari; and other senior officials and faculty members.

In her address, President Murmu congratulated AIIA for its achievements since its inception and underscored the importance of Ayurveda, describing it as “one of the oldest holistic medical systems in the world.” She noted that Ayurveda emphasizes harmony among the mind, body, and spirit, and commended the Ministry of Ayush for its efforts in mainstreaming traditional medical practices.

Highlighting the launch of the Ayush Aushadhi Pharmacy Programme, she stated that it aims to make quality Ayurvedic medicines more accessible to the public, thereby enhancing healthcare delivery. The initiative is seen as a vital step in bridging the gap between traditional practices and modern healthcare needs.

The President also unveiled the Shashwat Ayush Expo, marking the beginning of the Foundation Day celebrations. “I have learned that over 27 lakh patients have been treated through AIIA’s 44 specialty clinics,” she remarked, reinforcing the institute’s commitment to high-quality Ayurvedic healthcare across the nation.

During the event, she praised the significant milestones achieved by AIIA, including the signing of 73 national and international Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to enhance collaboration in the field of Ayurveda. She expressed confidence that with continued efforts, Ayurveda could gain global recognition through evidence-based practices.

“The theme of this year’s Ayurveda Day—‘Ayurveda Innovation for Global Health’—is timely and relevant. I hope this will facilitate broader access to Ayurveda,” she added, wishing success to the Ministry of Ayush in its future endeavors.

Vinay Kumar Saxena, the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, reflected on AIIA’s impact since its inception in 2014, noting its service to over 28 lakh beneficiaries across various specialties. He expressed admiration for AIIA’s role in enhancing community health and making Ayurveda accessible to the masses.

Union Minister Prataprao Jadhav heralded the President’s visit as a historic moment for AIIA. He announced plans for the establishment of ten new Ayurveda institutes across the country in the next five years, emphasizing Ayurveda’s growing global popularity. “The Ministry of Ayush has initiated the ‘Ayush Aushadhi Kendr’ program to provide authentic and affordable Ayurvedic medicines in rural areas,” he said, underscoring the government’s commitment to expanding Ayurvedic healthcare.

In his welcoming remarks, Secretary Ayush Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha noted that AIIA’s success extends beyond patient treatment. He highlighted the institute’s efforts in awareness, research, and the promotion of traditional medicine within India’s healthcare sector.

Kotecha also stressed the importance of maintaining a balanced lifestyle through practices like yoga, which aligns closely with Ayurveda’s holistic approach to health. He underscored how Ayurveda not only addresses individual health but also offers solutions to environmental challenges, promoting the well-being of both individuals and the planet.

As the celebration concluded, the collaborative spirit among government officials, healthcare practitioners, and the AIIA community was evident, fostering optimism for the future of Ayurveda in India. The event served as a reminder of the importance of integrating traditional practices with modern healthcare approaches to create a more holistic healthcare system that caters to the diverse needs of the population.

As AIIA embarks on its next chapter, the commitment to advancing Ayurveda’s principles and practices remains a cornerstone of its mission, aiming to bring the healing heritage of India to the forefront of global healthcare.
