Greater Noida (March 8, 2025): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the 600-bed Sharda Care Health City Super Speciality Hospital in Greater Noida, marking a significant step forward in enhancing healthcare standards in the region. The hospital, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, aims to provide advanced treatments for severe illnesses, including cancer, at affordable rates. The first phase of the project has cost around ₹500 crore, creating employment opportunities for approximately 1,000 people.
During the inauguration, CM Yogi Adityanath emphasized the government’s commitment to expanding healthcare services across the state, especially in rural areas. He pointed out that the ‘Arogya Mela’ is being held every Sunday to provide free medical services to millions of people. He also highlighted that 10 crore people have benefited from the Ayushman Bharat scheme. In addition, health insurance worth ₹5 lakh is being provided to all ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers, and village watchmen to ensure they can access quality healthcare services.
Expansion of Healthcare and Medical Colleges
CM Yogi Adityanath noted the significant progress made in strengthening the healthcare sector in Uttar Pradesh. He mentioned that three medical colleges have been established under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, and new medical colleges have been built in Maharajganj, Sambhal, and Shamli. There are still six districts in the state without a medical college, but construction work will soon begin in those areas.
He also shared that the number of medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh has increased from 12 to 40, with 37 private medical colleges now operational. This has led to a considerable improvement in medical education and healthcare services across the state. He further explained that CT scans and MRI facilities are being made available in every district, ensuring that patients receive better and quicker treatment.
Sharda Hospital to Ease the Need for AIIMS for Cancer Treatment
CM Yogi Adityanath assured the public that the Sharda Hospital, now with a capacity of 1,800 beds, will make it possible to treat serious illnesses locally, eliminating the need for patients to travel to AIIMS or other states for medical care. He emphasized that both the government and the private sector are working together to enhance healthcare facilities. With 600 additional beds added to the Sharda University’s healthcare facilities, the total bed capacity at the hospital has reached 1,200, offering a wide range of speciality services.
Earlier, people in Uttar Pradesh had to travel to Delhi or other states for treatment, but now world-class medical services will be available right here in Greater Noida, CM Yogi said. He added that the issue was not a lack of funds in the healthcare sector but the need for quality institutions.
Sharda Hospital’s Role During the COVID-19 Pandemic
CM Yogi Adityanath praised Sharda Hospital for its contribution during the COVID-19 pandemic, mentioning that it had provided 400 beds for COVID patients during the crisis. At that time, patients from Delhi and other states also came to Uttar Pradesh for treatment. He highlighted the hospital’s role in treating patients from districts like Ghaziabad, Baghpat, and Shamli, where people from Delhi had come for care.
Mahakumbh and Tourism’s Role in UP’s Growth
The Chief Minister also spoke about Uttar Pradesh’s emerging role in both the health and tourism sectors. He mentioned that during the recent Mahakumbh in Prayagraj, over 66 crore people participated in the holy dip, with pilgrims from across the country and abroad attending the event. He noted that the government initially estimated 1 to 1.5 crore visitors, but the actual number was far higher, highlighting the need for better infrastructure for parking and other facilities.
Y.K. Gupta’s Vision for Sharda University and Healthcare Growth
Y.K. Gupta, a key figure behind Sharda University, shared his vision during the inauguration. He spoke about his deep personal connection to Sharda University, saying, My mother, Sharda, gave me the opportunity to serve from childhood. The world is improving, and talented children are experimenting. In the coming days, Sharda’s name will be well-known in top universities. We will produce great scientists, and we will no longer need to be based in other countries. My daughter studies in America, and her advice is valuable.
Gupta highlighted the global reach of Sharda University, with students from 90 countries already studying there. He emphasized that Sharda University is now offering advanced services, including a helipad and collaborations with Singapore to improve infrastructure. Gupta also mentioned that Sharda University had taken a major step with the establishment of a new campus in Agra, offering facilities for 1,000 students, located just two and a half hours away from Greater Noida.
We have invested ₹500-600 crore in these developments. Today, we are incorporating AI-based technologies into our systems, ensuring that the children who graduate from here are better prepared for the world,” he said. “Our goal is to see Sharda University ranked among the top universities globally, like Harvard, and our students are our future scientists, he added.
Gupta concluded by saying that Sharda University’s efforts will continue to make a positive impact on education and healthcare, and expressed his gratitude for the blessings of Sharda, the institution’s namesake.
