GIMS Hosts Breast Cancer Awareness Program and CME to Promote Early Detection and Empower Women’s Health

Greater Noida (31 October 2025): In observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Department of General Surgery at the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), Greater Noida, in collaboration with the Greater Noida Menopause Society, organized a comprehensive Public Awareness Programme and Continuing Medical Education (CME) session on 31 October 2025. The initiative aimed to spread awareness about breast cancer, underscore the importance of early detection, and empower women through education and engagement.
The event commenced with a public awareness forum, which included informative talks, role plays, and poster presentations on breast self-examination and early diagnosis. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Sudha Salan, former Professor and Head, Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, VMMC & Safdarjung Hospital, and Dr. (Brig.) Rakesh Gupta, Director, GIMS.
The theme for this year’s campaign, “Every Story is Unique, Every Journey Matters,” resonated deeply with participants. In an emotional and inspiring address, Dr. Sudha Salan, herself a breast cancer survivor, shared her personal journey of resilience and recovery, encouraging women to prioritize timely screening and self-awareness.
The scientific session of the day, a CME titled “Empower Knowledge, Defeat Breast Cancer,” featured insightful lectures and interactive discussions led by eminent experts. Speakers included Dr. Ritu Sharma, Professor and Head, Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology; Dr. Satendra Kumar and Dr. Manabendra Baidya, Associate Professors, Department of Surgery; and Dr. Seema Singh, Senior Oncosurgeon. The experts discussed the rising burden of breast cancer, risk factors, and evidence-based screening and prevention strategies.
The event also featured an interactive panel discussion moderated by Dr. Pinky Mishra and Dr. Vaishali, followed by hands-on skill demonstrations on breast screening techniques conducted by Dr. Ashu. These practical sessions allowed participants to enhance their clinical proficiency and confidence in early detection methods.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Ruchi Verma, Associate Professor, Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, GIMS, who expressed gratitude to all the dignitaries, speakers, and participants for their active involvement and contribution to the cause.
The CME drew enthusiastic participation from leading gynaecologists, surgeons, oncospecialists, pathologists, educators, and postgraduate students, all of whom praised the event for its scientific depth, practical relevance, and community impact.
Through this initiative, GIMS reaffirmed its commitment to promoting women’s health, early cancer detection, and preventive healthcare education — striving to create a more informed and proactive society in the fight against breast cancer.
