GREATER NOIDA News (24/11/2025): The Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), Greater Noida, organized an awareness and capacity-building programme aimed at postgraduate students and faculty members to introduce the newly mandated E-Portfolio system, a modern digital framework for postgraduate assessment implemented by the National Medical Commission (NMC).

The session focused on creating a clear understanding among PG trainees and teaching faculty about the goals, structure, features, and operational processes of the E-Portfolio system, which marks a significant transition from conventional examination formats to a holistic, competency-based evaluation model aligned with the NMC-CBME curriculum.

The orientation was led by Dr. Mamta Yadav, Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacology, who delivered an in-depth presentation on the concept and utility of the e-portfolio. She explained that the digital portfolio serves as a longitudinal, structured record of a postgraduate trainee’s clinical exposure, academic activities, procedural skills, research involvement, feedback received, and reflective learning. This comprehensive system enables systematic tracking of growth in professional competencies, clinical judgment, and behavioral attributes throughout the training period.

Speakers emphasized that E-Portfolios strengthen accountability, transparency, mentorship, and continuous formative assessment, while also enhancing competency mapping across specialties. The programme highlighted that the system will contribute significantly to institutional assessment and ratings conducted by the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the NMC.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. (Brig.) Rakesh Gupta, Director, GIMS, stressed the importance of adopting contemporary and technology-enabled assessment tools to improve postgraduate medical training. He reiterated the institute’s commitment to implementing the reforms envisioned under the NMC’s Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) guidelines.

The session saw active participation from senior faculty members including Dr. Saurabh Srivastava, CMS & Professor, Department of Medicine; Dr. Rambha Pathak, Dean, GIMS; Dr. Ekta Arora, Head, Department of Pharmacology; and Dr. Mani Bharti, along with faculty representatives from various departments and numerous postgraduate residents.

Reaffirming its educational mission, GIMS stated that it remains dedicated to fostering innovative, technology-driven, and competency-based learning environments, and will continue to support trainers and trainees in integrating the E-Portfolio system effectively, in accordance with national standards.
