In continuation of its ongoing campaign against Noise Pollution, Satya Foundation organised Noise Pollution Awareness Programme for the Bus Drivers & Conductors of Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation, here on Wednesday evening, at Cantt Bus Depot in Varanasi.

More than 100 Bus Drivers / Conductors were present in this event who took pledge that:

  1. They will not use horn between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.
  2. Day or Night, they will not use horn in Silence Zone, i.e. in the 100 meters radius of hospitals-nursing homes, educational institutions, court & places of worship (like Temple, Mosque, Church, Gurudwara etc.)
  3. They will not use horn in the area of 50 meters from the crossings.

Prior to this, the Founder Secretary of Satya Foundation, Chetan Upadhyaya told the Bus drivers & Conductors that for the good health of human beings, sound level of 35-40 decibel is ideal, whereas the minimum sound level of any horn in the market is 80 db. Giving the example of neighboring country Bhutan, Upadhyaya said that even in 3 kms of traffic jam, the people do not use horn. As per the Indian law, horn can be used in emergency only. Cautioning the drivers, Chetan Upadhyaya said that noise of horn is causing loss of hearing power, loss of memory, Stress, Depression, Cancer & even reduction is Sex power.

Mr. P.K. Tiwari, the Regional Manager of Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (Varanasi region) said that the success of today’s programme lies in the hands of participants & urged the people to follow today’s pledge, very religiously. On this occasion, a very informative pamphlet (made by Satya Foundation) on the rules/laws related to horn was unveiled by the Regional Manager, UPSRTC, Mr. P.K. Tiwari.  Though all could not be present, 1500 copies of this pamphlet will be distributed to all the staff in next 1-2 days. On this occasion, Mr. R.C. Dubey (A.R.M.) & Mr. R.D. Shukla (Station Manager) were also present.
