Greater Noida News (19 August 2026): In a significant step towards strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s healthcare innovation and medical technology ecosystem, the first Uttar Pradesh Startup Clinic was successfully organised at the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), Greater Noida) on Tuesday. The initiative brought together nearly 40 healthcare, MedTech and HealthTech startups and innovators from across the state.
The programme was organised by the Centre for Medical Innovation (CMI), GIMS, in collaboration with Alkemi Growth Capital, under StartInUP, Government of Uttar Pradesh. STPI, MedTech Centre of Excellence, Lucknow, and UP Promote Pharma Council also participated in the initiative.
The Startup Clinic provided startups with a common platform to address critical areas including clinical validation, investment readiness, regulatory compliance, incubation, funding and business scale-up.
Uttar Pradesh Has Strong Potential in Medical Device Manufacturing
Addressing the gathering as the Chief Guest, Alok Kumar, IAS, Principal Secretary, IT & Electronics, Government of Uttar Pradesh, highlighted the rapidly expanding technology and startup ecosystem in the state.
He said Uttar Pradesh has the potential to emerge as a major national hub for medical device design and manufacturing, supported by its growing technology ecosystem, skilled talent pool, industrial capabilities and expanding healthcare infrastructure.
Alok Kumar appreciated GIMS for creating a platform that brings together healthcare innovation, clinical expertise and investment. He also welcomed the initiative of Alkemi Growth Capital to help startups become investment-ready and gain access to institutional capital.
CMI Bringing Doctors, Engineers and Management Experts Together
Dr. (Brig.) Rakesh Gupta, Director, GIMS, highlighted the distinctive role of the Centre for Medical Innovation in developing a hospital-based healthcare innovation ecosystem. He said CMI is not merely an incubation centre but an integrated platform where doctors, engineers and management professionals can work together to address real-world healthcare challenges.
While doctors identify clinical needs and patient challenges, engineers contribute technological solutions and management professionals bring expertise in business, markets and commercialisation. Their combined efforts can help transform clinical problems into scalable healthcare solutions.
CMI is working towards creating an integrated journey from Clinical Need → Innovation → Prototype → Clinical Validation → Regulatory Readiness → Investment → Scale-up.

Alkemi’s Presence Can Open New Funding Opportunities: Dr. Rahul Singh
Dr. Rahul Singh, CEO, Centre for Medical Innovation (CMI), GIMS, described the Startup Clinic as an important milestone for both GIMS and Uttar Pradesh’s healthcare startup ecosystem. He said the direct engagement of Alkemi Growth Capital with startups at GIMS on investment readiness marks the beginning of new opportunities for institutional funding.
Dr. Singh emphasised that the objective is not merely to help startups raise funds, but to prepare them to build sustainable, scalable and investment-worthy companies. He also highlighted the availability of various government grants and funding schemes and the need to connect promising startups with the right funding avenues.
According to him, CMI aims to serve as a bridge between innovation, clinical systems and capital, enabling healthcare startups to progress from clinical validation and regulatory preparedness to funding and large-scale growth.
Alkemi Conducts Investment Readiness Workshop
A key highlight of the programme was the Investment Readiness Workshop conducted by Alkemi Growth Capital. Alka Goel, Founding Partner, Alkemi Funds, interacted with startup founders for nearly two hours and explained how institutional investors assess healthcare companies and what startups need to demonstrate before approaching growth capital investors.
The session covered critical aspects such as business models, revenue potential, market opportunity, scalability, team strength, execution capabilities, financial discipline, product value proposition and institutional fundraising. The workshop focused on helping founders understand how to build companies that are not only capable of raising capital but are also sustainable and scalable in the long term.
STPI and MedTech Centre of Excellence Participate
The programme also featured Dr. Vandana Srivastava, Director, STPI-Noida and CEO, MedTech Centre of Excellence, STPI Lucknow, who shared insights into medical technology innovation, technology entrepreneurship and the importance of institutional and industry collaboration.
Dr. Sandeep Sharma, General Manager, Innovation & Research, UP Promote Pharma Council, also participated and highlighted the importance of institutional support for healthcare, pharmaceutical and innovation-driven enterprises.
Hospital-Based Incubation Model Receives Appreciation
During the programme, participating startups and distinguished guests visited the Centre for Medical Innovation and hospital-based incubation facilities at GIMS. The model of developing a medical innovation and incubation ecosystem within a government hospital was particularly appreciated by the participants. The hospital-based model gives startups direct exposure to clinicians, patient needs and real-world healthcare delivery challenges, enabling them to design solutions based on actual clinical requirements.

CDSCO–GIMS Regulatory Clinic Addresses Medical Device and IVD Concerns
The second half of the programme featured the CDSCO–GIMS Regulatory Clinic, conducted from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM, with a special focus on Medical Devices and In-Vitro Diagnostics (IVD). Healthcare and MedTech startups raised queries related to regulatory approvals, testing, certification, compliance, validation and market entry. Experts from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) addressed the concerns and provided guidance on regulatory pathways and compliance requirements.
The session reinforced the importance of ensuring safety, clinical validation and regulatory compliance alongside innovation before medical products reach patients.
Connecting Startups with the Right Funding Opportunities
A key takeaway from the Startup Clinic was that healthcare startups require more than technology and incubation—they also need access to appropriate capital at the right stage of growth. Uttar Pradesh offers a growing ecosystem of government schemes, grants, institutional support, incubation programmes and private investment opportunities. CMI aims to help promising startups identify and access these opportunities while strengthening their investment readiness.
The association with Alkemi Growth Capital adds another important dimension by helping founders understand investor expectations and prepare their businesses for institutional funding.
A New Model for Uttar Pradesh’s Healthcare Innovation Ecosystem
The first Uttar Pradesh Startup Clinic successfully brought together doctors, engineers, management professionals, incubators, regulators and investors on a common platform. The broader vision is to ensure that startups receive support throughout their journey—from identifying a clinical need and developing technology to clinical validation, regulatory approval, government funding, private investment and eventual scale-up.
With its clinical infrastructure, hospital-based incubation facilities and Centre for Medical Innovation, GIMS has the potential to emerge as an important anchor for healthcare innovation and medical device entrepreneurship in Uttar Pradesh.
From Clinical Need to Investment and Scale
The successful completion of the first Uttar Pradesh Startup Clinic marks an important step towards building a more integrated healthcare innovation ecosystem in the state. The initiative reflects a shift from merely developing products to creating solutions that are clinically validated, regulatory compliant, investment-ready, commercially viable and capable of delivering large-scale patient impact.
Through CMI, GIMS is working towards an ecosystem where:
Doctors identify the problem → Engineers develop the solution → Management builds the business → Regulators ensure safety → Investors enable scale. The initiative strengthens the vision of positioning Uttar Pradesh as a leading destination for healthcare innovation, medical devices and hospital-based entrepreneurship. From Clinical Need to Innovation, from Innovation to Validation, from Validation to Funding, and from Funding to Scale.
