Mission ShakthiSAT Launched at GBU on 19th Foundation Day, Bringing Together Girls from 108 Countries

Greater Noida News (24 August 2026): Gautam Buddha University (GBU), Greater Noida, marked its 19th Foundation Day with a major international celebration centred on space science, innovation and women’s participation in technology. The occasion also witnessed the formal inauguration of Mission ShakthiSAT, an international space education initiative bringing together girls from India and 108 countries.
The programme, which is being held from August 23 to August 31, 2026, aims to provide young participants with practical exposure to space science, satellite technology and STEM education. The initiative seeks to create a global platform where young women can learn, collaborate and contribute to future space missions.
The event was attended by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Chancellor of Gautam Buddha University, Yogi Adityanath, as the Chief Guest. Nand Gopal Gupta ‘Nandi’, Uttar Pradesh Minister for Industrial Development, attended as the Guest of Honour. Dr. Srimathy Kesan, Founder of Space Kidz India, and Vinod Kumar, Director, IN-SPACe, were also present along with several prominent personalities from the fields of science, space technology and education.
Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma Extends Wishes to Participants
India’s first astronaut, Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma, joined the programme virtually and conveyed his best wishes to the participants of Mission ShakthiSAT.
Addressing the young students, Sharma described them as the future custodians of the planet and encouraged them to utilise their knowledge and capabilities for the benefit of humanity and the environment. His message added a strong global and scientific dimension to the programme.
Vice-Chancellor Highlights GBU’s Global Vision
The celebrations began with a welcome address by Prof. Rana Pratap Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Gautam Buddha University. Welcoming the Chief Guest, international participants, scientists, academicians, students and distinguished guests, he described the launch of Mission ShakthiSAT on the university’s Foundation Day as a landmark moment for GBU.
Prof. Singh said the university’s vision extends beyond conventional academic education and focuses on fostering innovation, scientific temperament, creativity and a global perspective among students.
He noted that the participation of girls from 108 countries on a common platform demonstrates how science and space technology can transcend geographical boundaries and bring people together.
The Vice-Chancellor also highlighted the achievements of GBU students and faculty members during the past year in research, innovation, sports and various academic and co-curricular activities.
CM Yogi Calls on Youth to Become Future, Innovation and Nation Ready
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who addressed the gathering virtually, extended his greetings on the university’s 19th Foundation Day and emphasised the changing nature of opportunities for the younger generation.
He said the future would not be shaped by academic degrees alone, but by ideas, innovation, entrepreneurship and technology. He urged young people to prepare themselves to become “Future Ready, Innovation Ready and Nation Ready.”
Appreciating Mission ShakthiSAT, the Chief Minister said India has established a distinctive position in the global space sector. He described the country’s space journey as more than a story of scientific achievement, linking it with the broader vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, innovation and youth empowerment.
Yogi Adityanath also called upon students to follow the principle of “Nation First” and use their knowledge, talent and innovative abilities to contribute to nation-building.
Nand Gopal Gupta ‘Nandi’ Applauds Women’s Participation
Guest of Honour Nand Gopal Gupta ‘Nandi’ highlighted Uttar Pradesh’s progress in education, technology, innovation and industrial development.
He said initiatives such as Mission ShakthiSAT provide young people with exposure to advanced technologies while helping them develop confidence, leadership qualities and problem-solving skills.
Nandi particularly praised the participation of girls from across the world, observing that young women are increasingly making their mark in science, technology, space research and other emerging fields. He encouraged the participants to pursue innovative ideas and develop solutions that can contribute to India’s growth.
Mission ShakthiSAT to Provide Hands-on Space Technology Training
Dr. Srimathy Kesan, Founder of Space Kidz India, explained the broader vision behind Mission ShakthiSAT. She said the programme is intended to promote inclusive scientific development and international collaboration by bringing talented girls from different countries onto a common platform.
The initiative goes beyond classroom-based learning. Participants will receive exposure to areas including satellite development, payload development, electronics, systems engineering and STEM education.
The programme is designed to familiarise students with different stages of a space mission, from conceptualisation and design to development, testing and eventual deployment.
As part of the initiative, plans are also in place for student-led satellite projects, including ShakthiSAT-LEO and ShakthiSAT-Moon, giving participants an opportunity to engage with practical aspects of space technology.
GBU Faculty Members Honoured for Research and Publications
The Foundation Day celebrations also recognised faculty members for their contributions to research, patents and academic publications during the previous year.
Dr. Vikrant Nain secured the first position, followed by Dr. Nagendra in second place and Dr. Shakti Shahi in third place in recognition of their academic and research achievements.
Cultural Performances Highlight India’s Heritage
The event also featured a series of cultural performances showcasing India’s rich and diverse heritage. Through music, dance and traditional performances representing different parts of the country, the international participants were introduced to India’s cultural diversity. The programme reflected the spirit of “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat”, combining India’s cultural traditions with the international character of Mission ShakthiSAT.
Space, Science and Women Empowerment at the Centre of Mission
With participation from girls representing 108 countries, Mission ShakthiSAT places international collaboration, space education and women’s empowerment at the heart of its programme.
The initiative is expected to provide participants with specialised training and practical exposure while encouraging them to explore careers in space science, engineering, technology and research.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Prof. S. Dhanalakshmi, Dean, School of Biotechnology, Gautam Buddha University.
The 19th Foundation Day celebrations and the launch of Mission ShakthiSAT marked an important milestone for Gautam Buddha University, reinforcing its focus on scientific education, innovation, international collaboration, space technology and empowering young women to participate in the future of the global space sector.
