PM Modi Highlights GBU’s Mission ShakthiSAT in ‘Mann Ki Baat’

Greater Noida News (31 August 2026): Gautam Buddha University (GBU), Greater Noida, is gaining national and international attention for its efforts to promote space science, technological education, innovation and women’s empowerment through Mission ShakthiSAT. The ambitious initiative, which began on August 23, has brought together girls from 108 countries on a common global platform focused on space technology and satellite development.
The initiative received a major national endorsement when Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted Mission ShakthiSAT during his popular radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’. Referring to the initiative organised at Gautam Buddha University, the Prime Minister said that the dreams of the country’s daughters are now moving beyond Earth and towards space.
Prime Minister Modi appreciated the initiative for bringing young girls from different parts of the world together and giving them an opportunity to gain knowledge and practical exposure in satellite technology.
Mission ShakthiSAT Launched on National Space Day
Mission ShakthiSAT was formally launched on August 23, 2026, coinciding with the 19th Foundation Day of Gautam Buddha University and National Space Day. The programme was inaugurated online by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Chancellor of Gautam Buddha University, Yogi Adityanath.
The mission aims to create a global learning and collaboration platform for young women interested in space science and emerging technologies. Participants are being introduced to various areas of the space sector, including satellite development, payload design, electronics, systems engineering and other applications of space technology.
As part of the programme, 20 students from India were also selected for specialised training. Scientists, researchers and experts from different countries have been engaging with participants, providing them with technical knowledge as well as practical insights into the development and functioning of space systems.
GBU Expands Its Focus on Future Technologies
Welcoming the Prime Minister’s recognition of the initiative, Prof. Rana Pratap Singh, Vice Chancellor of Gautam Buddha University, described the mention of Mission ShakthiSAT in ‘Mann Ki Baat’ as a matter of immense pride for the university.
He said the recognition reinforces GBU’s commitment to moving beyond conventional classroom education and creating opportunities for students to engage with future technologies, scientific research and innovation.
The Vice Chancellor also highlighted the university’s plans to establish a satellite ground station on the GBU campus. Once operational, the facility will allow students and researchers to receive satellite data directly and analyse it for academic and research purposes.
Astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla Interacts with Students
Mission ShakthiSAT also provided students with opportunities to interact directly with leading personalities associated with space exploration.
On August 29, Group Captain and astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla interacted with students at Gautam Buddha University and shared his experiences of space travel and exploration. His interaction gave students an opportunity to learn about the realities of working and living in space and the challenges involved in human spaceflight.
The programme also witnessed the participation of Mrs. Veronique Herminie, First Lady of the Republic of Seychelles, along with representatives from several countries, further underlining the mission’s international character.
Students Witness Rocket Launch Demonstration
On August 30, GBU organised a special rocket-launch demonstration on its campus in collaboration with IN-SPACe. The demonstration enabled students to observe the rocket-launching process closely and understand different technological and operational aspects associated with space missions.
The hands-on exposure is aimed at bridging the gap between theoretical learning and practical understanding, encouraging students to explore careers and research opportunities in the rapidly expanding space sector.
Satellite Ground Station to Strengthen Space Research at GBU
The proposed satellite ground station is expected to become another important milestone in GBU’s efforts to develop itself as a significant centre for space science and technology education.
Through the facility, students and researchers will be able to access and study real-time satellite data, giving them practical exposure to satellite communication, data reception and analysis. The initiative is expected to strengthen research capabilities on campus while encouraging students to undertake innovative projects related to space science and satellite technology.

The successful execution of Mission ShakthiSAT has involved the collective efforts of the Gautam Buddha University administration, faculty members, experts and participating students.
The university acknowledged the significant contributions of Prof. Rajeev Varshney, Dean Academics, and Prof. S. Dhanalakshmi, Dean Planning and Research, along with the entire GBU team for their role in making the initiative a successful platform for space education, technological innovation, women’s empowerment and international collaboration.
With participation from girls representing 108 countries, Mission ShakthiSAT reflects GBU’s growing ambition to create a global ecosystem where young women can learn, collaborate and contribute to the future of space science and technology.
