Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh has issued the following statement from Srinagar on the flood situation in Kashmir :

The relief and rescue operations are yet to reach people stuck in floods outside Srinagar, particularly those marooned in villages.

The efforts made by the armed forces and the National Disaster Response Forcce (NDRF) are being appreaciated by the people and they certainly deserve praise for their work, but the rescue operations need to be expanded.

Water is receding from parts of the Srinagar city and the residents who are managing to return to their houses are beginning to see the damage caused by the floods. There is also a widespread apprehension of flood related diseases spreading.

In many villages, particularly in Badgam district, people are still waiting to be rescued. The eyewitness account is scary, since carcasses of animal floating on water can be seen and helpless residents have their eyes stuck towards the sky waiting for food and water to be airdropped.

I have gone to some of the villages and volunteers engaged in relief and rescuse operations have provided the names of following villages as among the most affected Summerbugh,
Golpura, Tengan, Kenihama, Shalina, Dangarpura, Banhar and Hanjigunddar.

Our estimate is that atleast two thousand families still need to be rescued and provided relief material.

We have requested our Punjab unit to provide motorised water pumps so that water accumulated in villages can be pumped out.

In this hour of crisis, we appeal to all sections of society to contribute in whichever capacity possible to save as many human lives as we can and also try to minimise the losses of residents who have lost everything in these devastating floods.

The immediate requirements for flood affected people are – Atta, rice, pulses, Milk powder, salt, sugar, tea, candles, match boxes, buckets, refined oil, soaps, cotton, dettol, toothpastes and brushes, chlorine powder and bleaching tablets.

AAP units across the country and party MLAs in Delhi have tied up with some NGOs to send this relief material to the valley.
