BOTH AAP GOVERNMENT IN DELHI AND BJP GOVERNMENT AT THE CENTRE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE POWER AND WATER CRISES IN DELHI—AJAY MAKEN.

NEW DELHI, May 25—Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Shri Ajay Maken said Congress vice-president Shri Rahul Gandhi will lead the protest march from Rajghat to Delhi Secretariat on May 28 (Saturday) at 6.30 p.m against the power and water shortage as both the AAP Government in Delhi and the BJP Government at the Centre were equally responsible for the plight of the people of Delhi. Shri Maken said Shri Rahul Gandhi has been playing a pro-active role related to the problems of Delhi, whether it was agitating in solidarity with  the striking sanitation workers, those uprooted from the Shakurbasti JJ Clusters, or the displacement of the  Street Vendors at Gujarati Mandi in Raghubir Nagar, to get them justice.

Addressing a press conference at the DPCC office, Rajiv Bhawan,  here today, Shri Ajay Maken said the power shortage in Delhi could have been easily averted during the  the peak summer days had the Badarpur Thermal Power Plant, under the Central Government-controlled NTPC, generated power to its full capacity of 707 MW, as in the last 8 days the average power which could be produced by  the plant was 211 MW. Shri Maken said similarly, the Bawana Power Plant, which has an installed capacity of 1370 MW, could produce in the last 8 days average power of only 263 MW. He said the Bawana power plant has not been able to function to its installed capacity due to shortage of gas, and the Arvind Kejriwal Government in Delhi has not done anything to run the plant to its full capacity by getting enough gas supply to the plant from the Centre. Shri Maken said Delhi Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal, who locks horns with the Central Government on each and every issue, has not found time to write a letter to the Modi Government at the Centre to get enough  gas supply to run the Bawana power plant to its full  capacity.

Shri Maken said the fast-eroding popularity of the AAP Government in its 15-month rule in Delhi was evident from the fact that the AAP lost 24 per cent vote share in the MCD by-election to 13 wards, which had 7 lakh voters. He said the AAP was rattled by the Congress victory in 5 wards in the MCD by-elections, which was a shocker for both the AAP and the BJP as none of the seats which went to the by-polls was held by the Cogress since 2007. He said  people have now realized that the AAP does not have the capability nor  the experience to provide efficient governance.
