Rajasthan, Sept 26th,2022: Amid growing uncertainty about Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot’s successor if he becomes the party president, over 90 MLAs loyal to Gehlot resigned on Sunday.

Ashok Gehlot loyalists are opposing the move to pass a one-line resolution about the next Rajasthan CM.

The MLAs are reportedly upset that they weren’t consulted over Gehlot’s expected move to step down as chief minister in order to contest in the upcoming Congress president election.

His loyalists also said that Gehlot should be a part of the decision-making on the new chief minister.

The group of legislators loyal to Gehlot held a meeting at state minister Shanti Dhariwal’s residence and then left for Speaker CP Joshi’s residence to submit their resignation on Sunday.

Independent MLA and Gehlot advisor Sanyam Lodha said, “If the decision is as per the wishes of the MLAs, then the government will run. But if it is not as per the wishes of the MLAs, then can the government function?… Obviously, there will be a threat of the government falling.”

Ashok Gehlot and Shashi Tharoor have emerged as frontrunners in the race of presidential polls and if elected, Gehlot would have to leave the CM’s chair under ‘one man, one post’ rule of the party. There is speculation that Sachin Pilot would be Gehlot’s likely successor.
