Greater Noida (11 September 2024): In a significant event for India’s semiconductor sector, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated SEMICON India 2024 today at the India Expo Mart in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. The ceremony, which began around 10:30 AM, marks a pivotal moment in India’s journey to establish itself as a global leader in semiconductor design, manufacturing, and technology development.
The inauguration was marked by a keynote address from Ashwini Vaishnav, India’s Minister for Railways, Information and Broadcasting, and Electronics & IT. In his welcome speech, Vaishnav highlighted the historical significance of the event, stating, “In the semiconductor sector, all the major players have gathered under one roof today.” He extended a warm welcome to the industry participants and underscored the collective effort of stakeholders as a testament to the success of Prime Minister Modi’s vision.
Vaishnav elaborated on Prime Minister Modi’s goal to democratize technology access, aiming to make technological advancements available to every citizen in India. He emphasized that the semiconductor industry, being a cornerstone of modern technology, is integral to various everyday devices, from phones and laptops to cars, trains, and televisions.
Reflecting on the sector’s achievements, Vaishnav credited Prime Minister Modi’s leadership for driving the progress in the semiconductor field. He noted that India’s strength in semiconductor design is demonstrated by the 300,000 engineers currently engaged in this area.
The event also saw the participation of other key figures, including Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Vaishnav expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all industry participants, stakeholders, state governments, and particularly to Prime Minister Modi for his visionary support.
Running from September 11 to 13, SEMICON India 2024 is a major milestone in India’s efforts to enhance its semiconductor capabilities and secure a leading position in global technology innovation.
