Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to Visit India to strengthen bilateral ties

Delhi (India), March 8, 2023: Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese will be visiting India from March 8–11, leading a delegation of ministers and business leaders for the first-ever India-Australia Annual Summit held in person. This visit presents a significant opportunity for Australia to strengthen its ties with India during an exceptional period of growth and dynamism in the region.

Albanese expressed his enthusiasm about the upcoming visit, highlighting the rich friendship between the two countries based on their shared democratic values, common interests, people-to-people bonds, and a passionate yet friendly sporting rivalry. He also emphasized the potential growth opportunities for Australian businesses and workers in India’s trade.

During his visit, Albanese will attend various events and meetings in Ahmedabad, Mumbai, and New Delhi. He will arrive in Ahmedabad on March 8 and participate in the Holi event at the Sabarmati Ashram and Raj Bhavan. On March 9, Albanese and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi are expected to watch the first day of the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera.

On March 10, Albanese will attend the ceremonial reception at the Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi and lay a wreath at the Rajghat. He will also meet with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.

Australia and India cooperate in various multilateral forums, including the UN Security Council, Commonwealth, IORA, ASEAN Regional Forum, International Solar Alliance, Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, and Indo-Pacific Economic Framework. This visit demonstrates Australia’s strong commitment to strengthening its ties with India and becoming a source of stability and growth in the region.
