We often encounter situations at a roadside, in a Mall or market where we see people gathered around, looking helplessly at an unconscious victim, and doing nothing. Similarly, an emergency may arise even at home or in clinics wherein a near or dear one or a patient might fall unconscious and require immediate medical attanetion.Any delay in administering care to the victim in such cases may be life threatening. This is a crucial time, since knowing what to do exactly till the time the ambulance, can play a pivotal role in saving the victim’s life. This knowledge can be gained through the Basic Life Support course. I.T.S Dental College, Hospital & Research Centre, Greater Noida added another feather in its cap by conducting an American Heart Association (AHA) certified Basic Life Support two day workshop in association with Phoenix Institute of CPR and Defibrillation on 17 th and 18 th October 2016. The course was organised by the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, was aimed at training the faculty and the students to identify any life threatening Medical Emergency occurring in the Dental Hospital or elsewhere, and immediately take appropriate steps to render the basic life support until the victim can be given full medical care at a hospital. A total of 50 candidates participated in the workshop.Dr. Anmol S. Kalha, Director PG Studies in his address told that every clinician should have the basic knowledge to effectively treat any emergency condition.Dr Puneet Ahuja , Principal said that we can face any kind of emergency condition at any point of life which may be due to fire, flood or earthquake. He said every doctor should be competent enough to tackle any emergency condition at the first instance only. The course faculty included Dr.Rajesh Khanna (Lead instructor), Ms. Laxmi, Ms.Sneha Sharma, Ms.Anshu Garg, Ms.Hemlata Sharma. The course involved lectures, video &live demonstration and hands-on learning of how to administer CPR and use of AED.This was followed by a written and practical test, following which, the participants were given the certification from the American Heart Association.
