New Delhi, 13th June 2023: A dealer at Bengaluru’s weekly ‘thief market’ (Chor Bazaar) was arrested today for misbehaving with a foreign national two months ago, according to Bengaluru Police.

Pedro Mota, a Dutch citizen travelling across India, was assaulted by a local merchant while filming a video blog near Chickpet in Bengaluru.

A video, shot on Pedro Mota’s recording device and released by Bengaluru police Wednesday, shows the YouTuber laughing while making a selfie video at the market when a man complains to his recording and grabs his hand.

The Dutch man is frequently seen pleading with him to let go. He quickly frees himself and dashes away from the scene.

According to Karnataka police officials, the event occurred two months ago, and the vlogger has since left the country.

The trader, identified as Navab Hayath Sharif, was detained and a charge was filed against him under Section 92 of the Karnataka Police Act, which stipulates penalty for “certain street offences and nuisance.”

The Bengaluru police said via tweet, “Pertaining to this, action has been taken, and the concerned person rounded up. Strict action will be taken against him. No such misbehavior with foreign tourists will be tolerated.”

Pedro Mota had uploaded the video on his YouTube channel with the title “Attacked At The Thieves Market In India”.
