Bihar, August 23, 2022: Speaker of Bihar Legislative Assembly, Vijay Kumar Sinha has refused to resign despite the no-confidence motion passed against him, citing that the motion is based on false charges.

A day ahead of the Bihar Assembly’s special session wherein the new government will prove its majority, Sinha has refused to resign claiming that the motion passed by the MLAs of the new ‘Mahagathbandhan’ is based on false allegations and bought without care of legislative rules.

The newly formed government under Nitish Kumar is backed by Lalu Prasad’s party RJD who has demanded that Sinha, hailing from a different party, i.e. BJP should step down since he cannot maintain his post when a motion for his removal is under consideration in the House.

In a statement released by Sinha, he said that he has been accused of partisanship and a dictatorial attitude, both of which are false, and resigning under such circumstances does not bode well with his ideologies and self-respect.

Usually, the incumbent Speaker quits when there is a change in government midterm.

Though nearly two weeks have passed since the JD(U) led Mahagathbandhan has come to power in Bihar, but Sinha has refused to quit.
