Bihar Cabinet Expansion: Tej Pratap Yadav and thirty other MLAs take oath

Bihar, August 16th, 2022: Earlier this month, Nitish Kumar had snapped ties with BJP and was sworn in as the Bihar Chief Minister for the eighth time with the leader of the RJD party, Tejashwi Yadav as his deputy.

Nitish Kumar expanded his cabinet this morning with the majority of the seats being allocated to RJD legislators.

16 ministers were sworn from RDJ, whereas 11 ministers took oath from Kumar’s JD(U) party and two ministers from Congress.

Tej Pratap Yadav, Tejashwi’s brother, and ex-CM Lalu Prasad Yadav’s elder son was also sworn in today.

Two legislators from Congress, one from Jitin Ram Manjhi’s Hindustani Awam Morcha, Santosh Suman, and the lone Independent MLA, Sumit Kumar Singh, will also take oath.

Other RDJ ministers like Alok Mehta, Lalit Yadav, Surendra Yadav, and Kumar Sarvjeet are also expected to take oath at the Raj Bhawan today.

While the Bihar cabinet can have up to 36 ministers, few seats are being left vacated for future expansion.

The new Nitish Kumar-led-Mahagathbandhan government will undergo a floor test to prove its majority in the state assembly on August 24th,2022.
