Celebration outside AICC in Delhi as Rahul Gandhi takes charge as Congress President!

New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi On Saturday has taken charge of the Congress in the presence of all Congress leaders including Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh. The 47-year-old is the fifth generation member and sixth person from the Nehru-Gandhi family to be AICC Chief.

The process of his election as the new Congress chief was completed after the Central Election Authority president Mullapally Ramachandran handed over the Certificate of Election to Rahul Gandhi in a ceremony at the 24, Akbar Road housing the party headquarters.

Congress workers were jubilant as Rahul Gandhi takes charge of party from mother Sonia Gandhi. Enthusiastic Congress workers danced, burst crackers, released gas balloons and distributed sweets to celebrate the occasion. Buntings and hoardings carrying congratulatory messages were put up at various vantage points in Delhi by Congress Workers.

Earlier At the Congress headquarters on Saturday, Sonia Gandhi gave her final speech as leader of the Congress party, soon after which Rahul Gandhi gave his first speech as Congress president. In his speech, Congress President Rahul Gandhi laid out his vision of the Congress party and spoke about what his key areas of ficus will be. He also criticised the ruling BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
