New Delhi (India), 30th May 2023: Singer Diljit Dosanjh’s first look from his next flick Chamkila has been released, and it has astonished his admirers. In the short teaser posted by Netflix on Tuesday morning, the singer-actor is seen without his turban.

He appears to be wearing a wig, albeit the actor has not acknowledged this. In Imtiaz Ali’s film, he plays Punjab’s best-selling artist, Amar Singh Chamkila. In the film, Parineeti Chopra will play his partner Amarjot Kaur.

Netflix released the movie with a caption that read, “Jo naam saalon se aapke dil aur dimaag pe chaaya hai woh ab aapke saamne aaya hai (the name which ruled your hearts and minds is all set to come in front of you). Watch the untold story of Punjab’s highest record-selling artist, Amar Singh #Chamkila, coming soon only on Netflix!”

People in the Punjabi music industry, including Prabh Bains and Desi Crew, praised the preview, although many objected to the film’s usage of Hindi rather than Punjabi.

One fan commented, “Punjab ch bani Punjabi artist di movie, Hindi ch ajeeb a kaafi. Kantara wangu dub honi chaidi. Original languahe punjabi chaidi si. Baki movie aye te pata lagu? (A film about a Punjabi artist should be filmed in Punjabi; it looks strange in Hindi. Like Kantara, it should be dubbed in Hindi, but the original language should be Punjabi. We won’t know until the film is released).”

Some Diljit admirers, on the other hand, expressed their dissatisfaction at seeing the actor sans the turban. One admirer said, “Dil tutt gya paaji pagg bina kithe gall bann ni, (this broke my heart, this won’t work without the turban).” Another user commented, “This is not good, haircut nhi krna chahida si (you shouldn’t have done it).”

Set in Punjab, the film stars Diljit and Parineeti as real-life musician couple Amar Singh Chamkila and Amarjot Kaur, who were assassinated in 1988, along with two members of their band, in an unsolved crime.
