New Delhi (India), 30th May 2023: The Kerala Story, a film starring Adah Sharma, has sparked a firestorm of controversy. Naseeruddin Shah recently shared his thoughts, claiming that the trend of “Muslim hating” has grown in popularity and criticising current films as blatant propaganda.

In an interview with the Indian Express, Naseeruddin Shah expressed his concern about the ongoing debate and stated that we are living in uncomfortable times.

The ‘A Wednesday’ said, “Oh sure, these are worrying times absolutely. The kind of stuff that’s pure, undisguised propaganda is being lapped up and it’s a reflection of the zeitgeist of the times.”

Naseeruddin Shah further blamed the ruling party and continued, “Muslim hating is fashionable these days, even among educated people. It’s what the ruling party has very cleverly tapped into this nerve. We talk about secular this, democracy that, so why are you introducing religion into everything?”

Furthermore, the industry veteran rightfully chastised the Election Commission for its silence during this period. He further emphasised that if a Muslim leader had asked electors to say ‘Allah Hu Akbar’ and vote, there would have been an enormous uproar and mayhem.

He said, “I mean how spineless is the election commission of ours? Who doesn’t even dare utter a word. If there had been a Muslim leader who had said, ‘Allah Hu Akbar bol ke button dabao’, shit would have hit the fan.”

Lastly he said that here, our Prime Minister says things like this and still loses. So I’m hoping this will fade off. But it is undeniably at its pinnacle right now. This government has played a really clever card, and it has worked. Let’s see how long it keeps working.
