New Delhi, August 24, 2023: Former ISRO chairman G Madhavan Nair has attributed the remarkable budget efficiency of Chandrayaan 3, India’s Moon Mission, to the dedication and passion of Indian scientists.

Nair stated that Indian scientists, driven by their mission and not monetary gains, achieve significant milestones despite lower wages compared to their global counterparts. He noted, “Indian scientists can do this as they are not motivated by money.”

Elon Musk, the world’s wealthiest individual, also acknowledged the budget achievement, praising India’s Chandrayaan in a tweet. Responding to a post highlighting that the Chandrayaan mission’s cost was less than the budget of Christopher Nolan’s movie “Interstellar,” Musk commented, “Good for India.”

Nair emphasized that ISRO scientists lead a “normal and subdued” lifestyle, living on wages that are just one-fifth of those provided to scientists worldwide. He credited this wage structure as an advantage that allows scientists to focus on their mission with unyielding dedication. “They are not really bothered about the money but are passionate and dedicated to their mission. That is how we achieved greater heights,” Nair stated.

The budget success of Chandrayaan 3 is noteworthy, considering its lower cost compared to its predecessor, Chandrayaan 2, which faced setbacks but contributed to the development of the successful Chandrayaan 3 mission. Nambi Narayanan, former ISRO scientist, highlighted that Chandrayaan 2’s experiences played a pivotal role in the triumph of Chandrayaan 3.

Chandrayaan 3’s budget efficiency showcases the commitment of Indian scientists and their ability to achieve exceptional feats with limited resources. This unique approach underscores that true success is fueled by passion and dedication rather than monetary rewards.
