New Delhi (30/10/2019) : A select group of Christian leaders of Delhi led by the Convener of the National Protest Rally on 30th October in New Delhi addressing a press conference reminded the government of its responsibilities to protect the interests and well-being of religious minorities, particularly the Christians, in all walks of life.
The leaders regretted that the Modi Cabinet which has given representation to other religious minorities, did not yet have a minister from the Christian community. “We hope Mr. Modi will be soon be able to nominate a Christian minister to his cabinet who has the confidence of the community and will be able to safeguard its interests in times to come.”
The leaders also urged the Union government and the state governments to ensure that the community, and its religious leadership including clergy, pastors and nuns were not harassed, assaulted or attacked under fictitious charges of conversions. Religious minorities are being coerced, threatened and targeted by self-styled cultural-nationalists.
The community leaders demanded both central and state governments to take strict and urgent action against the groups that are responsible for such mayhem. The leaders also drew the attention of the government to the Black Law called the Freedom of Religion Act which is routinely misused as a shield to trouble the community.
