On the occasion of National Press Day on Monday 16th November, the members of City Press Club Faridabad celebrated the day by organizing a ‘thought sharing workshop’ at the office of the club. The city press club is the first of its kind association in the city that has taken the interests of the journalists in its top agenda. The interests of journalists were the center of discussion on the occasion too.  Senior Journalist Rajesh Sharma, Bureau Chief Tribune presided over the function while Saurabh Bhardwaj, Editor Voice of Faridabad was the guest of honour.  Going against the tradition of all the present listening to just a couple of speakers, each one of the members were provided an opportunity to share their views on the relevant topics.

Rajesh Sharma, speaking on the occasion said that being the fourth pillar of democracy, we have to be more responsible towards society, country and to our profession. He said that we have to report without being partial towards any of the parties. He said that while the political rule keep changing the journalists have to keep doing their work with the same integrity.

Rakesh Chaurasia, Senior Journalist and Bureau Chief National Duniya while co-coordinating the event spoke about taking care of moral values while reporting. He said that with the invasion of electronic channels, sometimes the print media also deviates from its standards, which it should not. He said that while the environment of working of the channels is different, the standards for print media are more aligned towards the moral values and accurate reporting.

Saurabh Bhardwaj underlined the rising importance of Social Media. He said that while everyone is talking about the print and electronic media, social media is taking the charge at a fast pace. He said with more and more people switching to mobile apps for their day to day functioning, most of the people have no time to turn through the pages of the newspaper carrying news that they have already read on their mobile. Hence, rules to regulate social media are the need of the hour. He said that before the social media breaks all barriers of morals and journalism, the government should recognize it as a section of media and should formulate rules for it. Bhardwaj also underlined the ambiguity of a non-journalist being made the head of Press Council of India. He said that instead of a judge being appointed on the post, a senior journalist carries more relevance to the post as he understand the interests and problems of the journalists.

Uttam Raj, senior journalist and editor Hatodiadhikar narrated the history of the day. He said that with changing times, the meaning of journalism has transformed more to business orientation. He said that the journalists have to work according to the lines set by their publishing house. Hence, it is really difficult to maintain the moral values while reporting.
