Greater Noida News (18/03/2026): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday underscored the state’s transformation into an infrastructure-driven economy, announcing that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been invited to inaugurate the upcoming Noida International Airport at Jewar on March 28. The Chief Minister made these remarks during the release of the book ‘Nav Nirman ke 9 Varsh’, which highlights the government’s achievements over the past nine years.
Emphasizing the significance of the Jewar Airport project, Adityanath said the facility would be the largest airport in the country and a major catalyst for economic expansion. He projected that the airport would not only enhance connectivity but also generate revenue of nearly ₹1 lakh crore for the state government while opening up large-scale employment opportunities.
Detailing the progress in connectivity, the Chief Minister said Uttar Pradesh now boasts one of the most extensive railway networks in India. Metro rail services have already been rolled out in seven cities—Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra, Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad and Meerut—while the country’s first rapid rail corridor is operational between Delhi and Meerut. He also highlighted that India’s first ropeway project is under development in Varanasi and the nation’s first inland waterway from Varanasi to Haldia is functional within the state.
On the aviation front, Adityanath noted that 16 airports are currently operational in Uttar Pradesh, including four international airports, with Jewar set to become the fifth. He reiterated that the addition of this mega airport would significantly strengthen both domestic and global air connectivity.
Reflecting on the state’s infrastructure push, the Chief Minister contrasted the current scenario with the pre-2017 period, stating that Uttar Pradesh has witnessed unprecedented growth in expressway construction. He claimed that 55 percent of the country’s expressways are now located in the state, a figure expected to rise to 60 percent with the completion of the Ganga Expressway later this month. He also pointed out that all district headquarters are now connected through four-lane roads, while tehsil and block headquarters have been linked with improved road networks.
Adityanath further highlighted the state’s growing global appeal as an investment hub. Referring to recent visits by delegations to Japan, Singapore and Germany, he said international investors have shown strong confidence in Uttar Pradesh due to its policy of zero tolerance towards corruption and a transparent governance framework. According to him, the state has successfully shed its earlier image and is now attracting substantial foreign and domestic investments.
He revealed that investment proposals worth ₹15 lakh crore have already moved to the implementation stage, while an additional ₹6 lakh crore is in the pipeline for upcoming ground-breaking ceremonies. The Chief Minister added that investment activities are now spread across all districts, supported by a large land bank, 34 sector-specific policies and digital platforms such as ‘Nivesh Mitra’ and ‘Nivesh Sarathi’.
Providing further context, Adityanath said that prior to 2017, investors were reluctant to enter Uttar Pradesh due to concerns over safety, lack of clear policies and limited infrastructure. He noted that while fewer than 14,000 industries were established over several decades before 2017, the state now has more than 31,000 large industrial units. Additionally, around 96 lakh MSMEs are operational, providing employment to over 3.11 crore people, while large industries employ more than 65 lakh individuals.
In a political remark, the Chief Minister also took a swipe at previous governments, referring to a long-standing belief that visiting Noida could cost leaders their positions. He said he chose to break this perception upon taking office, prioritizing development over superstition.
Concluding his address, Adityanath asserted that Noida and Greater Noida have emerged as key contributors to India’s economic growth, particularly in mobile manufacturing and electronics production. He stated that dismantling outdated beliefs and focusing on development has played a crucial role in Uttar Pradesh’s rapid transformation into a leading investment destination.
