Cold Storage roof Collapses in UP, 8 dead, more missing

Uttar Pradesh (India), March 17, 2023: A tragic incident occurred on Thursday morning in the Chandausi area of Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, where the roof of a potato cold storage collapsed, resulting in the loss of eight lives. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been pressed into action to conduct rescue operations, and 11 people have been rescued so far.

Sambhal DM Manish Bansal informed us that search operations are underway and sniffer dogs are being used to find people who are still trapped under the debris. He further added that the rescue team is working relentlessly to save as many lives as possible. “We have increased our force for the morning. Other teams of NDRF and SDRF will also come by morning,” he said.

Moradabad DIG Shalabh Mathur confirmed the unfortunate death of eight people and revealed that some others are still missing. He said that an FIR has been lodged against the owner and two others, and four people have been detained for questioning. The accused, Ankur Agarwal and Rohit Agarwal, are currently absconding.

“The ADM-level inquiry has also been conducted in this matter.” The part of the cold storage that has collapsed was constructed some time ago and was not constructed following the laid-down standards,” added the DIG.

This tragic incident has once again brought to the fore the need for strict adherence to safety standards in buildings and structures. The authorities have urged people to take precautions and ensure that their properties are constructed as per the prescribed standards to prevent such unfortunate incidents.
