COP14 United Nation Convention to Combat Desertification underway at Gr Noida’s India Expo Mart

Greater Noida: 4/9/2019: UNCCD COP14 is underway at Greater Noida’s India Expo Mart. The core agenda of the 12-day Conference which began on Monday is to reverse land degradation and its outcomes while accelerating positive achievements for people and for ecosystems.

Talking exclusively to AIR News, Marcos Montorio, who is NGO and Civil Society Liaison Officer, UNCCD said, “India has been doing amazing work in combating land degradation, desertification and drought.” He praised India for implementing a lot of projects at the local and national level.


Montorio said that NGOs and Civil Society can contribute in a large way towards realizing the objectives of COP14 as they work on the field and implement projects to protect and rehabilitate the land.

Union minister Prakash Keshav Javadekar who also attended the 1st day of the program took to twitter to express his views, he wrote, “If human actions have created the problems of climate change, land degradation and biodiversity loss, it is human efforts that will undo the damage & improve the habitats. We meet here in #UNCOP14 now to ensure that this happens.”

Delegates from 196 countries are participating in COP14. The parties attending the convention will agree on the actions they will take over the next two years and beyond to get the world on a sustainable development path.
