New Delhi, 26th May 2023: A Delhi court granted a NOC or No Objection Certificate to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for issuance of an ‘ordinary passport’ to the leader.

The Congress leader approached the court after he surrendered his diplomatic passport upon disqualification as an MP earlier this year. He required the court’s clearance due to his alleged involvement in the National Herald case involving money laundering and misappropriation of funds.

On Wednesday, the court ordered Subramanian Swamy, a former BJP leader MP who had filed the Herald case, to respond to Gandhi’s plea for the no-objection certificate by Friday.

The court then approved Gandhi’s application, but only for a partial period. The court has allowed him to use an ordinary passport for three years instead of the ten desired by the leader.

This comes as Rahul Gandhi was disqualified from serving in the Lok Sabha after being convicted in a defamation case earlier this year for remarks concerning Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s surname.
