Delhi govt sets up panel to give recommendations for utilisation of Advocates Welfare Fund

New Delhi: The Delhi Government has constituted a 13-member committee to give recommendations on utilisation of fund for the welfare of lawyers, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Friday.

Addressing a press conference here, he said in the budget, the AAP government had set aside Rs 50 crore for welfare of lawyers under the Chief Minister Advocate Welfare Scheme.

Kejriwal said the committee will be headed by Supreme Court Bar Association president Rakesh Kumar Khanna and will submit its report within 10 days.

Further he added ” It’s a long pending demand for social security of advocates In case of sudden demise of a lawyer, the family is often left helpless. There is no system for medical help as well, so in that situation this fund will be a big relief to the family. ”

The welfare fund had been created under the advocate welfare Act, which came into existence in the 1960s as the lawyers had been demanding a fund for a long time
