New Delhi (India), 18th February 2023: In a milestone launch India presented it’s first indigenous ATS( Automatic Train Supervision) system on Saturday. DMRC (Delhi Metro Rail Corporation) launched its system on the Red Line corridor which starts from Rithala and terminates at Shaheed Sthal.
After the launch India has become the sixth country following France, Germany, Japan, Canada, and China to have its own ATS system. The i-ATS system was debuted from the Operations Control Centre (OCC) present in Shastri Park and was inaugurated by Manoj Joshi, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India and Chairman of DMRC. Some senior officers of the Delhi Metro were also present on the occasion.
The indigenous system is made entirely of Indian technology and Indian parts, it aligns with the Central Government’s aim for an ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and their ‘Make in India movement’. The ATS system is developed by the DMRC with a collaboration with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL). The system is a step forward for India to become an independent and a more Communication Based Train Control(CBTC) signalling system.
The ATS will slowly be introduced to other corridors of the Delhi Metro and further to other railway operations in the Indian Railway. A lab dedicated entirely for the development of the i-ATS has been set up by the DMRC and BEL in IT Park to hasten the project and successfully see to it’s completion.
