DELHI CONGRESS MAY APPROACH COURT FOR CONTEMPT OF COURT AGAINST DELHI GOVERNMENT IF AAP GOVERNMENT DOES NOT DEPOSIT MONEY FOR HOLDING MCD BYE-ELECTIONS—AJAY MAKEN.

NEW DELHI, March 16—Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Shri Ajay Maken said despite the order by the Delhi High Court, asking the Aam Aadmi Party Government in Delhi to deposit the money required for holding bye-elections to the 13 vacant wards in the Municipal Corporations of Delhi within 30 days, the Delhi Government has not complied with the order. He said though the AAP has named its candidates for the bye-elections to the 13 MCD wards, it was perhaps waiting for someone to approach the Supreme Court and get a stay order, so that the elections could be stalled.

Addressing a press conference at the DPCC office, Rajiv Bhawan here today, Shri Ajay Maken said if the money for holding the MCD bye-elections is not deposited with the Delhi Election Commission, as directed by the court, the DPCC may approach the court for contempt of court. Chief spokesperson Smt. Sharmistha Mukherjee was also present at the press conference. Shri Maken said due to the absence of elected representatives in these 13 MCD wards, development works have come to a total halt. He said the Congress party was taking the bye-election very seriously, and the Congress volunteers would make door-to-door visits in these unrepresented wards to expose the hollow promises made by the Aam Aadmi Party, none of which has been fulfilled by it. He said the people were upset with the AAP for spending crores of rupees for advertisements, which was like the “India Shining” campaign by the BJP.

Shri Ajay Maken said the Congress party will bring out separate manifestoes for each of these wards after taking the views of the local people after a 10-day door-to-door visits from March 20 to 30. “Our workers will go door-to-door to find out the problems of the people. We will not do any campaigning but ask just seven questions to the people”, he added. He said Congress workers will fan out to 683 polling boths and ex-MLAs, Municipal Councillors and former Ministers would be among those who would be deputed in 153 schools.

Shri Maken said the seven questions that would be put to the people consist of:
1. The AAP and BJP had promised to check price rise. Have prices come down?
2. AAP and BJP had promised to eradicate unemployment. Has anyone from your family got a job through the Government, and if so, then give details?
3. Have you got free Wi-Fi connectivity?
4. Has the water and sewer bill come down?
5. Is there any reduction in your power bill?
6. Has corruption come down?
7. Has the water and power supply improved?
