New Delhi, July 11, 2023: The northern region of India is reeling from a catastrophic deluge, resulting in extensive devastation and the unfortunate loss of more than 37 lives over the past three days. New Delhi finds itself at the epicenter of this calamity as the Yamuna River, surging beyond its danger mark, engulfs the city in a flood of despair.

With Haryana releasing additional water into the river, officials warn that the situation will worsen in the next 24 hours. The Delhi government has swiftly taken action, setting up control rooms to monitor flood-prone areas and water levels, while Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced a range of measures to combat the waterlogging predicament.

As the heavens continue to unleash their fury, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan brace for further heavy downpours. The Army and the National Disaster Response Force have joined forces to intensify relief and rescue operations across the affected states. Rivers surge, roads and buildings stand submerged, and normal life comes to a standstill in many cities and towns. Himachal Pradesh suffers the most, with landslides and flash floods causing extensive damage to homes and properties worth millions of rupees.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu of his full support in this time of crisis. Uttarakhand battles blocked roads and highways amidst incessant rains and landslides, while water levels in rivers approach dangerous levels. Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana also grapple with heavy rainfall, leading to severe waterlogging and flooding in low-lying areas.

The monsoon’s relentless assault brings Rajasthan to a grinding halt, submerging roads, rail tracks, and even hospitals. The confluence of western disturbances and monsoonal winds has sparked this intense spell, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
