#Demonetisation: Govt receives 4000 emails on black money in 72 hours
New Delhi, Dec 20: On Friday, Dec 16, the government email address for black money info, blackmoneyinfo@incometax.gov.in, was made public for the general public to mail any info on people who have black money. The government had also urged people to take benefit of the last window for unveiling black money.
In a matter of just 72 hours, the email address has been swarmed with 4,000 emails from whistle blowers. “We are getting a good response,” a finance ministry official told ET.
A finance ministry official has also reported that the ministry is now able to get daily reports on deposits made. These emails are said to be the additions to the vast amount of data coming from Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) on the unaccounted income.
“The system is capturing a lot of data,” the official said.
It has also been reported that the revelations contained in the emails will boost PM Narendra Modi’s efforts to get rid of the black money. Income Tax department has long been conducting raids to seize black money. Along with tackling black money hoarders, several bank officials have also been suspended or sacked for exchanging old notes with new without authorisation.
Reportedly, the information that has been received in the 4000 mails relates to deposits in Jan Dhan and urban cooperative bank accounts.
