Doctors’ day is day to show special gratitude, love and care to the doctors who spend their lives in curing sick  with their medical treatment without thinking of self. When a patient gets cured he feel that the doctors are the reflection of  God who gave them life once again. The realization then only comes  that Doctors sacrificed their life for the patients without sometimes bothering about their families and food.  Not only Doctors  but a family members too suffer in the process. Doctors’  day is a real opportunity to understand the relation between   Doctors    and patients. It is actually a thanks giving day for the patients to the doctors and wish them well. As such we should celebrate the doctors day to show respect and gratitude to the doctors by interacting with them and wish them happiness and peace as they do when they examine the patients. National   Doctors’  Day is celebratehd on July 1st every year on the
date of  birth (and Death) of  Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy,  the second Chief Minister of West Bengal  who remained on the post for fourteen year till his death on 1st July, 1962. Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy is considered a great architect of West Bengal who founded five eminent cities. He was a highly respected physician and a renowned  freedom
fighter. He constituted a trust for his properties in Patna for social service  and made eminent nationalist Ganga Sharan Singh (Sinha) the Trustee.    He was awarded Bharat Ratna on 4th Feb., 1961. Dr. B.C. Roy, was a renowned doctor and was known for diagnosing diseases by the feel of pulse alone. Unlike the doctors now who need
various tests to be conducted before diagnosing any disease. His carrier as a physician started in 1911 when he came back to India from Bortholomew’s hospital in UK having completed his MRCP. He did an excellent  job in various capacities in different medical colleges and excelled as a physician, an educationist, social reformer, freedom
fighter, when he joined in the civil disobedience movement and later leader of Indian National Congress from where he became Chief Minister of West Bengal.
Doctors’  day is thus a tribute to Doctor B.C. Roy and the entire medical profession.  The Ist of July was celebrated as Doctor’s day first time when S.B. Devi Charity Home celebrated this special day by serving the ailing humanity by health checkup. There were elaborate discussions on various aspects of health, prevention and proper
treatment. Mention was also made of the kind of service needed to be provided to patients with disability like tricycle, wheel chairs artificial limbs etc.  Various tests were conducted to diagnose various  diseases. The trend to celebrate this day  for removing the sufferings of the people by holding different Medical Checkup camps
to serve the ailing humanity continues since then. It is high time that Doctors device certain treatments which are not that costly  and are within the reach of the poor and needy in line with the teachings  and practices  of  Dr. B.C. Roy  the great  trend setter. Selfless services to the society is the prime function of Doctors but some doctors in their ego fleece  their patients to extent that the cost of treatment kills the patient rather than curing the disease. Doctors must device certain treatments which are not only cheaper  but are more efficacious and faster to treat.
The  consultation fees of doctors in some cases is very high  and poor people get denied of their expertise. Govt. must provide doctors all types of facilities so that their treatment becomes cheaper and their services are available to all. Mobiles dispensaries should be provided to treat patients in hilly and difficult areas. Doctor’s day is a day to develop a good relations with the doctor’s and their families  by wishing them further success in life seeking
their love and care. It is indeed important that both Doctors  and patient may be made aware of the existence of this day and  at the same time of its relevance and significance in the larger context of healthcare in the country.
We take this opportunity to congratulate all doctors on this day  for their good work and love and care shown to the patients.
