Don’t play blame game, says Kejriwal amid Delhi’s rising pollution

New Delhi, 4 November, 2022: Delhiā€™s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal recently stated in a press conference with Bhagwant Mann that the growing pollution levels in Delhi-NCR are not the time for finger-pointing.

“North India has an issue with air pollution. Not just the AAP, the Delhi government, or the Punjab government are to blame. The time for finger-pointing is not now,” he further said.

Kejriwal also declared that primary schools would be closed as of tomorrow. “We’re making every effort to control the pollution. Instead, all primary schools in Delhi will be closed as of tomorrow. They won’t reopen until the air quality in the capital city is better,” he said.

They further stated that the Delhi govt might reintroduce the odd-even programme if necessary. ā€œWe’re also debating whether the odd-even arrangement for autos should be applied.”

Since the AAP is in power in Punjab, it is accountable for the stubble burning that is occurring there. However, he promised that by the next year, stubble burning in Punjab will be greatly decreased. “The AAP has only been in power in Punjab for six months. Although we have started the essential processes, six months is not long enough. By 2023, there would be less stoke burning,ā€ he added.

While Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann continued that the more stubble owing to bountiful paddy crop in Punjab; pledges to find a solution by November next year. We are burying stubble by utilising 1.20 lakh machines. Resolutions to halt stubble burning have also been adopted by panchayats. We commit to reducing stubble burning by November of next year.ā€
