New Delhi, 29 July 2022: The real moments of accomplishment are when people have the courage to take risky decisions and are willing to try new things. One such personality, Dr Harivansh Chaturvedi, Director of BIMTECH, Greater Noida did not do things thinking about success or recognition, but diligently worked for the betterment of the society.

In a special interview with Ten News, Dr Chaturvedi, a veteran academic professional and business mentor shared some of his major accomplishments.

“There are definitely some moments in my life when I felt that I had contributed something to society and to my institution, BIMTECH. Like the time when I had joined AICTE for a few years, then was joining BIMTECH as its second director. It was also a remarkable moment when we launched the campus at Greater Noida in 2004. It was a big achievement,” Dr Chaturvedi shared.

“In all these projects, myself and my colleagues have major contributions and I always felt that god has been very kind to us. Our founders, Late Mr and Mrs Birla have been very benevolent and very supportive,” he added.

Dr Chaturvedi also reminisced about the time of launching the campus at Bhubaneswar which was later converted into the Birla Global University. “In 2009, in a meeting with our founders, I had proposed that we should have a university at some other place. They were very happy and amused. Mr Birla asked me how many years would we require. I said two years. He gave us three years to set up the university,” he added.

He also highlighted the tough time they faced in finalising the land for the university. “We visited different places, met political leaders and ministers, even the current PM who was the CM then. I had met him at his residence in Gandhinagar to explore the availability of land in Gujarat. We had also been given land in Haryana at Sonipat, Rajiv Gandhi Education City, however, it was too costly,” Dr Chaturvedi said.

The Rajasthan government had also offered us land. But we wanted to go to a faraway place so we contacted the Government of Orissa. They gave us 30 acres of prime land in the city at a very cheap price, ie. Rs 2 crores. Whereas Haryana proposed to give us 7 acres at Rs 17 crores, he said.

“Ultimately, we decided to go to Orissa which is a very happening place. In 2009, we got the land and set up the BIMTECH campus in 2013 which was converted into a university in 2016,” the BIMTECH Director said. “It was a very good feeling when I was doing the groundbreaking ceremony. It was a big feeling that I am the person who conceived the idea and worked on it,” he added.

Sharing a few other moments of accomplishments, Dr Chaturvedi responded that launching his book at the residence of Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu was very memorable. “I also remember when I completed my 20 years at BIMTECH, a function was organised by the alumni at IHC, it was attended by several prominent education sector personalities, Chairman of UGC, Directors of IIMS, my mentors and friends. It was a huge gathering,” he said.

He concluded that the real moments of accomplishment are when his family was happy with his achievements and recognized his accomplishments, he concluded.
