The Chief of Army Staff Gen. Vipin Rawat, during his visit to Kashmir
took stock of the situation in Kashmir specially after the
terrorists of Hizbul Mujahideen and their Commander, Sabzar Ahmad
Bhat were killed. It is learnt that in his meeting with commanders
of the area issued instructions that while dealing with terrorists
even those who support them should also be dealt with severely. It is
very obvious that while carrying out search operation it was noticed
that the terrorists are supported by the locals who indulge in
stone pelting and creating other disturbances. He directed that even
those who support terrorists should be dealt with accordingly. His
statement that he cannot tell his troops to just wait and die when
they are fighting a dirty war in Kashmir. He cannot tell troops that
he will come with a nice coffin with a national flag and he would
send their bodies home with honour. He has to maintain the moral of
the troops who are operating in difficult conditions. His threat
to Pakistan that unless they stop cross border firing to help
terrorists enter India, a befitting reply even harder than surgical
strike and destroying their bunkers would be undertaken. These
statements have been widely appreciated.
Ex-Servicemen fully support his views and appreciate the action being
taken against terrorists. It is however felt that Govt. should not
release photographs of the action taken to destroy Pakistani posts to
win over public opinion. It unnecessarily provokes terrorists in
Pakistan who indulge in more attacks destroying civil property and
causing more unnecessary deaths. People have full confidence in
Armed Forces and do not want any proof of the action taken.
