Exclusive Interview with Dr. Geetima Khanna: Insights on Optimal Oral Health
TEN NEWS NETWORK
Noida (06 September 2024): In a recent conversation with the Ten News team, Dr. Geetima Khanna, a distinguished dentist from Noida with qualifications in BDS and MDS, shared valuable insights on maintaining optimal oral health. Here’s a detailed look into our discussion:
Q1: What inspired you to pursue a career in dentistry?
Dr. Khanna revealed that her fascination with dentistry began from personal experience. “I was always intrigued by dentistry, primarily because I faced several dental problems myself. I used to be quite apprehensive about visiting the dentist with my father, but observing the dentist’s work piqued my interest. I thought, ‘Why not me?’ I had a keen interest in biology and initially considered pursuing MBBS. However, seeing the prevalence of dental issues around me and the fact that no one in my family had pursued dentistry before, I decided to take a different path and embrace this profession.”
Q2: Can you describe the most notable aspect of your practice?
Dr. Khanna specializes in pediatric dentistry, focusing on children under 18 years. “My work involves treating both permanent and milk teeth. Working with children presents unique challenges, particularly when they are anxious about dental visits. Managing young patients can be demanding, but the reward of seeing a child smile after treatment is incredibly fulfilling. It’s gratifying to help a child overcome their fear and achieve better oral health.”
Q3: What are the most common issues you encounter in your practice?
Dr. Khanna noted that many people visit the dentist only when they experience pain. “Often, by the time pain occurs, the problem has escalated. Regular dental check-ups—ideally every six months—can prevent such issues. Waiting until problems become severe might lead to the need for artificial teeth. It’s always better to visit the dentist regularly to avoid more complex and costly treatments.”
Q4: What are your recommendations for maintaining good oral health?
Dr. Khanna emphasized the importance of regular dental check-ups and proper brushing techniques. “I recommend everyone get a dental check-up every six months. In addition to regular visits, choosing the right toothbrush is crucial. Opt for a toothbrush with soft bristles, and consider moistening it with a little water to make it even softer. Hard-bristled brushes can damage the enamel. Brush twice daily—after breakfast and dinner, with special emphasis on brushing after dinner. For children, aim for two minutes of brushing, and for adults, four to five minutes. However, be cautious not to overbrush.”
Q5: How can patients contact you for a dental check-up?
Dr. Khanna’s clinic, Dental Solutions One Care, has multiple branches, with the main one located in Sector 40, Noida.
Dr. Khanna’s clinic boasts a team of specialists, ensuring that patients receive care tailored to their specific needs. “Our team of specialists is equipped to address various dental issues. The treatment approach depends entirely on the patient’s condition and needs.”
