Fag-end selloff drags Sensex 844 points down

October 11, Mumbai: On Tuesday, the Indian stock market’s benchmark Sensex fell 844 points, while the Nifty fell below 17,000 points, pulled down by severe selling pressure in energy, technology, and auto firms.

The 30-stock S&P BSE Sensex finished 843.79 points, or 1.46 percent down, at 57,147.32 points, down from 57,991.11 points the previous session.

The Sensex opened slightly higher at 58,004.25 points and soared to an intra-day high of 58,027.52 points. The Sensex fell to an intra-day low of 57,050.40 points due to a fag-end selloff.

On Tuesday, the Sensex fell 200.18 points, or 0.34 percent.

The Nifty 50 index of the National Stock Exchange fell below 17,000 points. The Nifty finished at 16,983.55 points, down 257.45 points or 1.49 percent from the previous day’s close of 17,241.00 points.

There was heavy selling pressure in energy, technology and auto stocks.
