Farmers from 81 villages hold protest against Noida Authority

Noida: Farmers from 81 villages took out a protest march against the Noida Authority on Friday. Thousand of farmers protested against the anti-farmer policies of the authority. Since morning farmers started gathering at Noida stadium. Large number of women also participated in the protest.

Protest was led by convener Sukhveer Singh under the banner of ‘Kisan Astitva Bachao Andolan.’ Sukhvir, said “We are protesting the wrong done by the Noida Authority over the years over compensation given to farmers in lieu of their land,”.

Farmers have also complained of the Noida authority’s move to demolish their constructions after declaring them illegal. Several farmer organisations of Noida and Greater Noida have come out in support of the protest march.

Claiming that the authority’s demolition drive is unjust, the farmers said the situation escalated after a team of officials on Monday reached Garhi Chowkhandi village to demolish around 30 buildings that had no approval.

The authority had sealed these buildings last year on the grounds that they were built illegally on government land. But farmers in large numbers congregated in the village and did not allow the officials to proceed with the demolition.
