New Delhi (India), April 22, 2023: A fire broke out on Saturday morning at Vikas Bhawan, a government building located near the Income Tax Office (ITO) in Delhi. The fire department officials received a distress call about the blaze at around 8.30 a.m. and promptly dispatched four tenders to the location.
The building, which houses several government offices, including the Delhi Commission for Women, was the site of the incident.
As of this writing, the firefighting operation is still ongoing, and there is no information on the extent of the damage caused by the fire. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of government buildings in the capital city, especially since this is not the first time a fire has broken out in Vikas Bhawan. In August 2019, a fire in two rooms at the Delhi Commission for Women’s office in the same building destroyed several files and caused significant property damage.
According to DCW chief Swati Maliwal, no one was injured in the blaze that broke out on Saturday. However, the potential loss of important documents and property damage is a cause for concern, and authorities are likely to investigate the cause of the fire once it has been extinguished.
