First Calibration Flight Lands at Noida International Airport, Marking Historic Milestone for Jewar

Greater Noida (31 October 2025): The ambitious Noida International Airport (NIA) project at Jewar achieved a significant milestone on Friday as the first calibration flight successfully landed on its runway — marking a defining moment in the journey toward the airport’s operational readiness. The successful test indicated that the airport’s technical infrastructure has entered its final phase of validation, paving the way for the commencement of commercial flight operations in the near future.

Purpose of the Calibration Flight

A calibration flight is a specialized testing procedure conducted before an airport is certified for regular flight operations. Its primary goal is to verify the accuracy and reliability of the airport’s navigational and communication systems, including the Instrument Landing System (ILS), radar, and radio beacons. These systems are vital for assisting pilots in determining precise altitude, direction, and approach paths during landing and takeoff.

During the test, a specially equipped aircraft performed a series of pre-defined flight patterns over the runway at varying altitudes and angles. Sophisticated onboard instruments recorded real-time data to measure signal strength, consistency, and alignment accuracy. The data will now undergo detailed analysis by aviation experts to ensure that all technical systems meet international aviation safety standards.

Among those present at this historic event was Jewar MLA Dhirendra Singh, who expressed pride and optimism over the achievement.

“Today is a day of immense pride, not just for Jewar but for the entire state of Uttar Pradesh,” Singh remarked. “The vision we once dreamed of is becoming a reality. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the airport project has gained remarkable momentum. The successful calibration flight confirms that the airport is nearly ready for full-fledged operations.”

The event was also attended by senior officials including Yamuna Authority OSD Aust, Airport Nodal Officer Shailendra Singh Bhatiya, and representatives from various aviation and project management teams. All hailed the moment as a “decisive step towards establishing one of India’s most technologically advanced airports.”

Meeting Global Aviation Standards

The calibration flight forms part of a mandatory safety protocol outlined by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). It is far more than a symbolic procedure — it is a crucial certification step without which no airport can commence regular flight services. Only after the successful completion of calibration testing can an airport be declared airworthy for passenger operations.

Noida International Airport: A Vision Taking Flight

Developed by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), the Noida International Airport is envisioned to become a key aviation hub for northern India. The first phase of construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. Once operational, the airport will not only ease air traffic pressure from Delhi’s IGI Airport but also serve as a major catalyst for regional economic growth, employment, and international connectivity.

The calibration aircraft used for this mission was fitted with advanced high-precision instruments capable of detecting deviations as small as a few centimeters. The test examined whether all air navigation aids — including radar signals and runway alignment systems — were operating within globally accepted parameters.
