New Delhi, 29 October 2022: A 5-feet long black-headed royal snake was rescued by the wildlife SOS rapid response team from a grocery store at the Secretariat building in Delhi.

The snake is currently being cared for by the NGO and will soon be returned to the wild, according to the officials.

They had discovered that snake behind a row of tightly packed bhujia packages, hiding on a shelf.

They quickly alerted the security team, who subsequently got in touch with Wildlife SOS.

Later, the adult black-headed royal snake was found by the NGO rescue team when they quickly arrived at the secretariat building. It then carefully freed the approximately five-foot-long snake and put it into a bag, according to the statement.

Kartick Satyanarayan, co-founder and CEO of Wildlife SOS, said, “We thank the personnel at the secretariat building for alerting us to this predicament and keeping a watch till our rescue team arrived.”

“Animals are occasionally compelled to enter regions with a high concentration of people due to the ever-increasing anthropogenic pressure on wild habitats. This instance is a terrific way to show people that they are not strangers but rather citizens of the same city as us,” he said.

Though lengthy and dangerous in appearance, the snake, according to Wasim Akram, Deputy Director-Special Projects at Wildlife SOS, is actually harmless. Typically found in Delhi-NCR, this species feeds primarily on rodents, lizards, birds, and even small mammals, explained Akram.
